Portland Youth Wrestling Practice Cancelled (1/31)
6 Sharks Place at Matt T Rix Memorial Tournament
Congratulations to all PYW wrestlers that competed at the Matt T. Rix Memorial Tournament this weekend in Marshwood. Everyone gave their best effort on the mat, worked on the techniques we learned in practice, showed great support for their teammates and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship. 1o Wrestlers competed and 6 left the tournament with medals around their necks.

Friday Practice Changes
We just found out that we have to change Friday practice this week. PHS needs the gym for something else so we’ll practice Thursday at 6:15 instead.
Upcoming Events for Portland Youth Wrestling
1. We will have Tuesday practice this week in preparation for our intersquad scrimmage on Wednesday. Practice will happen at the regular time in the PHS gym.
2. The intersquad scrimmage will happen Wednesday during the PHS vs. Biddeford High School meet. Please plan to arrive around 5 pm as we would like to have the kids wrestle around 5:40 (before the high school match). Wrestlers will be paired with a teammate and will wrestle for the “first takedown” on the high school mat. There may be multiple matches going at once. This should be a fun, low pressure event for all the kids. No wrestlers are required to participate but everyone is encouraged to attend and stick around for the high school match.
3. This Sunday (1/29) is the Matt T Rix Memorial Youth Tournament at Marshwood. There will be a number of Portland Youth wrestlers there. We have submitted a roster that includes all of our wrestlers so your child is pre-registered in case you decided to go. If you do go, please let them know you are pre-registered with Portland Youth Wrestling and pay your wrestler’s registration at the door. Here are the details: January 29, 2012, open to k-6 at Marshwood High School, weigh ins are from 7-8 am, wrestling begins at 9 am, registrations are $12 per wrestler this year.

Despite Portland Schools being cancelled today, we will have practice in the PHS gym at the regular time.
Practice Cancelled Friday 1/13/12
Tonight’s practice for Portland Youth Wrestling Sharks has been cancelled due to the weather. All afternoon and evening activities at Portland High School have been cancelled. We will practice again at our regular time Tuesday.
PYW Launching Team for 6th Graders
Portland Youth Wrestling is launching a team for 6th graders beginning January 10. The team will practice at the same time as the Youth Team (6-7:30 Tuesdays and Fridays) at Portland High School. Athletes will receive separate coaching and participate in more advanced workouts. The season will be split into two 6-week sessions. Please download the registration for below for more information.

Wrestling Clinic and Scrimmage at USM
WRESTLING CLINIC AND LIVE WRESTLING:

There will be excellent technique and strategies shown and we will finish the clinic off with approx. :45min of live wrestling! Excellent opportunity to LEARN, WRESTLE and get on the Mat before your season starts in a College Atmosphere! YOU MUST PREREGISTER (NAME, AGE AND SCHOOL) WITH COACH PISTONE BY FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4th VIA EMAIL, THAT YOU WILL BE ATTENDING THIS CLINIC at jpistone@usm.maine.edu. UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MAINE vs UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
Right after the Clinic, at 2pm, Coach Henry Marsh and the University of New Hampshire Wildcats will take on the University of Southern Maine Huskies in their annual Scrimmage in the USM Fieldhouse.
This meet will feature multiple State Champions from all over the Country, High school All Americans, NCAA and NCWA Nationally Ranked Wrestlers! Attending this scrimmage is FREE to the public!
